The 2002 and early 2003 Nissan Altima's had a recall to replace the crank position sensor. The problem caused by the sensor would not allow the vehicle to start or would stall it. When I had my 03 3.5 SE I had to replace the sensor, although I never had a problem. According to this AP article, the government has had 29 more complaints of 03 Altimas that were not originally included in the recall. Nissan said it would fully cooperate in the investigation. Recall Info 2002 Nissan Altima Base Recall ID from NHTSA: 03V455000 Recall Date: 11/17/2003 Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING Potential Units Affected: 630000 Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR MAY HAVE AN IMPROPER SOLDER JOINT DUE TO SOLDER DEFORMATION CAUSED BY HEAT STRESS ACCELERATED BY THE EXISTENCE OF FLUX RESIDUE DURING THE SOLDERING PROCESS. Defect Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CRANK POSITION SENSORS. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR(S), AND IN SOME CASES, THE VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL SENSOR(S). VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN, 01V357, ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS NEW CAMPAIGN. THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS USED IN THAT CAMPAIGN ARE ALSO AFFECTED. yeah that actually happened to me in my 02 Altima. i had problems starting it and at traffic lights, the car would shut off.
This also happend to my 2004 Altima. Exactly word to word as described. Engine stopped 2 times, fortunately on the low speed.
we had the recall for the crank engine sensor done and lo and behold it happened again except this time it won't start at all. we have an extended warranty (car has 71,000) kmiles on it,and Nissan won't fix it because A-they don't know what is wrong and need prior approval from warranty company, and B- we need to prove maintenance, all the oil changes were done by myself at a local garage, reason being I wanted better oil and heavy duty filters.any suggestions on how to get them to repair the car?
They should definitely fix it in my opinion. I would try another dealer or I would get in touch with Nissan Confusmer Affairs. Their # is 1-800-647-7261
my 2004 Altima also has a bad crank position sensor. is it covered under recall? - rc
I had to replace the crankshaft position sensor on 2003 altima, had it repaired at local nissan dealership, wasn't under recall for 2003, do any one know who i can get in touch with to get my money back, seems like this ia ongoing problem with the altimas.
Denise for Omaha We have a 2003 altima 51,000 miles on it. Had the recall on the Electronic Control Module done (when we were having no problems with it at all). Three days later the Service Engine Soon light came on. Took it back to the dealer they put code p0507 down for the problem (bad battery). Husband replaced the battery- light went on again three or four days later. Took it in to a mechanic and he said we need a Throttle Control System P,0507 which cost 593.00 for the parts. What gives? It's going to cost( with our mechanic, I'll never go back to the dealer) around 800.00 to 900.00 dollars to get fixed.
Car trouble There are so many ways to suffer in this world, but in the United States financial losses seem to be the most popular way to experience loss and sadness. In other countries, which aren’t as materially blessed, ... <$I18NPostedByBacklinkAuthor$> @ 2/11/2008 12:44:50 PM
